Young beginners, new skiers and intermediate levels can get to grips with the sport quickly and can do so in style in La Tania. This resort is a family-friendly base from which to explore all the slopes of the Trois Vallées including the popular Courchevel and Méribel.

  • A car free resort. The village is completely car free which makes it a safe place for families with children. The resort is small and everything is in walking distance making it an easy place to get around without the worry of traffic.
  • There’s a nursery slope at the resort. It is excellent for beginners both young and old as you can practice and take your lessons within the resort you are staying at. There are two easy slopes in La Tania which are perfect for lessons and gaining confidence before moving on to the more difficult ones.

Skiing in La Tania

You have access to the massive skiing area of the Trois Vallees being only two lifts away from either Méribel or Courchevel 1850. With a skiable area of over 105 square kilometres you are spoiled for choice in the wider ski area. There are also thousands of ski instructors to choose from many of whom specialise in family and child instruction.

In La Tania there are three runs down into the resort, a difficult blue run which brings you straight down through the forest in to the resort. A red run with a constant gradient bringing you down to the bottom gondola station. And finally, a green run which winds down through the forest from the top gondola station straight in to the resort.

The nursery slopes have a free lift, so if you are brand new to skiing you don’t have to buy a lift pass for the first couple of days at least. For those who want to be more tested, there are some difficult off pistes routes to keep the experts challenged.

Where to stay in La Tania

If you want to stay in resort there are a few different accommodation options you can choose from. There are eight self-catering apartment blocks which vary in size and good for those who want to come and go as they please. There are two hotels and a chalet style hotel which are better suited for those looking for a bit more service during their stay. Then there are a large number of traditional chalets set in the woods above the resort which are the most popular places to stay for visiting families.

Most of the chalets are modern with en-suite facilities and have everything you will need for your family stay. This includes the options of ski & snow boot fittings, booking and purchasing lift passes and lessons and anything else you might need for your holiday. A chalet stay is great for visitors who want to be at the heart of the action but also need some support during their stay.

Activities for non-skiers

The beautiful scenery of La Tania is one of the reasons people want to stay here and hiking and exploring the area is a great thing to do for non-skiers. A thirty-minute walk from the centre brings you to the Teppes’ Clearing, a beautiful and preserved place at the heart of the forest of spruces.

Other activities to do in the area include dog sledding, tobogganing, swimming, ice skating and purely playing in the snow. Your tour operator or chalet guide will help you to find the right activities best suited to you and your family. Whether that’s within La Tania itself or at the nearby resorts.

Après Ski in La Tania

It’s not the liveliest of resorts however there are still some great bars and restaurants to choose from. A favourite bar and place to eat is Pub Le Ski Lodge, which has live bands and a good atmosphere throughout the night. It also plays some major sports events on a big screen so you won’t miss the game during your ski break. For something a little classier, you’ll find a wide selection of cocktails in the new Chrome Bar an upmarket bar in La Tania.

Within the resort there are a surprising amount of cuisines available to choose from. For amazing, local Savoyarde cuisine check out Les Marmottons which offers both Savoyard cuisine and a pizzeria. Or for something special there’s Le Farçon, a Michelin starred restaurant in the heart of the resort. If you are too tired from a day of skiing to even leave the comfort of the chalet then yes, there’s the option of a takeaway pizza or Indian!

Facilities in La Tania

The tourist office is the place to start which houses a post office, with sale of stamps and parcels, Internet access at local rates and free access to local tourist information. You can also book mountain activities see the availability of overnight accommodation and even make an appointment for someone to answer all your questions. The Tourist Office is open every day of the season, from December 16, 2017 to April 15, 2018.

Within the resort you can enjoy an Indoor Pool, and a Gym for some indoor exercise plus a resort bus to get you to the lifts and other resorts. For supplies there is an onsite supermarket to stock up on the basics. This is especially convenient if you are staying in one of the self-catering apartments in La Tania.
